Our Blog - Spacers Volleyball training session

You may have seen blogs and pictures in the past about our local professional volleyball team, the Spacers. We have been going to games, trying out different seats and locations, for the past few years. This season, we decided to become season ticket holders. We won't make all of the games, since we will be on vacation for some of them, but this way, we can be assured of good seats, since we were able to pick them out.

A few of the benefits, in addition to tickets to all of the games and our selected seats, is that we get special invitations. There was a "friendly" pre-season game (that we could not attend) and we were also invited to a training session and drinks where we could meet/talk with the players. Interestingly enough, there was a LOT of turnover between last season and this season, so I only recognized about 1/2 of the current team.

The training session was a bit interesting to see how they went through various things. They did a little "game" where you could only bump the ball and it had to go over the net with just 1 hit. Then another little "game" with 2 hits on each side before going over. Then everybody had to do servers, and there was a trainer there with a speed gun with a goal of getting to 60 mph.

Here you can see a few pictures from the session. In the "meet and greet" that was after the session, we talked to a French player from Strasbourg who has been on the team for a year already, and is the guy serving in the 2nd picture. There are 2 players from Brazil on the team that we also spoke with ... a bit difficult here since one spoke French well but the other didn't really do well in English or French. There is also a new guy from Mexico on the team as well as a bunch of young French guys who have joined from other teams in France. I was actually a bit impressed with how good these pictures came out with the new iPhone camera!
