Our Blog - Faudoas, France

Faudoas is quite an old town, with history going back to the 11th century. The current population is around 290 but the town has been on a fairly steady decline from a high of over 800 people in the 1830's. Unfortunately, we were there on a Sunday and there was nothing open, not even the church.

Built from 1898, the church sits at the center of the village. It was rebuilt on the ruins of the old church that had been destroyed following a fire. At least on the outside, you can see some Gothic arches The frescoes that decorate this church were painted by René Gaillard Lala and his associate Guitard. His paintings depict religious history from the Old to the New Testament. We find his paintings on the heart, the side walls, the vaults and the chapels. Then we walked around the town, which is about 1 block total. Most of the buildings here are half-timbered, a few sitting on stone posts.

There was also a covered market hall across from the church.
