Our Blog - Enclos Paroissial of Bodilis

Another parish enclosure, this one in the village of Bodilis, which dates from the 16th century. There are 3 entrance gates in the perimeter wall as well as a simple calvary. There used to be an ossuary, but it was destroyed in 1825.

As you enter the porch, which dates from 1601, you are greeted by 12 statues of apostles. You can see that there is still some amount of color, including each apostle having a blue sash.

The interior is really impressive and much larger than some of the other churches. The ceiling is made of wood and painted blue. This specific church has really well-preserved carved wooden beams. One of the beams still has the date of the choir and central nave: 1567. Similar to other churches, the shape of the ceilings are like the bottom of boats, and there are figureheads on the ends of the wooden beams, similar to those on the bow of boats.

The stone 17th-century baptistry has various statues around the hexagonal surround, which is topped by a dome.

Within the church, there are 5 altarpieces from the end of the 17th century, which are highly decorated with statues and columns.

Just a couple pictures of the stained-glass windows.
